Scientists have yet to identify the cause of Rheumatoid Arthritis, but they have discovered that in most cases there is a genetic link! Recently they announced that one of the genes discovered has an important role in controlling the body's immune system, and could put someone at a greater risk of contracting rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus. It is all very complicated, but the upshot is, that if your parents suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, then you are at risk.
Being a sufferer myself, I have discovered a way to combat the disease. It is not a cure, but I lead a painfree and very normal life! If you are a fellow sufferer, then please try The Arthritis Diet that I have discovered.
Having the "Faulty" gene does not mean that you are guaranteed to fall ill with the disease, it is just more likely than if your parents or other close relatives(ie; grandparents) did not suffer the disease.
Research is ongoing and in relatively early stages, but scientists think that eventually more genes will be identified.
It seems that in many cases of RA, the disease is triggered by an "outside" influence, for example; if you have the faulty genes and then contract another type of infection, this could set the whole thing off!
It is hoped that by researching the "gene" aspect, that the scientists will eventually be able to treat a person according to his or her needs. ie; for an individual profile. |
