Gout is a Form of Arthritis, Can I Cure it by Way of a Diet?
The answer is, yes! Gout is no doubt a form of arthritis, and it can be controlled by eating the prescribed diet for Gout. Gout involves repeated bouts of red, inflamed and swollen joints. High levels of uric acid in the body can result in Gout, and it is possible to control these levels by controlling the diet.

A high fibre diet is good for everyone, but is especially good for people suffering from gout. It is best to eat a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates, rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grain. Fats are not good for gout. A gout friendly diet is low in protein and in fats, especially animal fats.

Gout results due to the formation of uric acid crystals in the connective tissue in the joints. This happens because the body has high levels of uric acid. High uric acid may be produced by the body itself, or may not be eliminated properly by the kidneys. Foods high in purines when consumed in high quantities can also result in high levels of uric acid in the body.

Purines are present in all protein rich foods. It is therefore impossible and unadvisable to eliminate all purine rich foods from our diet. Some foods that are extremely high in purine include beer, yeast, legumes, meat extracts, mushrooms etc.

Some foods that known to be beneficial for gout patients are those that contain anti inflammatory properties. These may include red berries, tofu, certain fish like salmon, flax seed etc. these are just basic guidelines to help you understand the cause of gout and how it can be controlled with the help of diet.
